You are invited!
We plan to walk along the beach while discussing the plan by City of Richmond’s Public Works Department to put riprap (huge boulders) along 300 feet of beach (about 1/3 of the Park’s beach front). We will look at the scale of the project, the condition of the bank, and the current conditions. We will also discuss the installation process and what is likely to happen to this public beach if the riprap is installed. The Tide sets the times:
Be prompt! The tide will not wait for us. Wear shoes that can get wet and sandy. Meet in the Point Molate Beach Park parking lot at any of the following times and dates:
June 14 Sat 8:40 am (Please contact us if you want to go on the Saturday beach walk.)
June 15 Sun 9:20 am (For Sunday through Wednesday, just turn up!)
June 16 Mon 10:00 am
June 17 Tues 10:50 am
June 18 Wed 11:30 (0.39)
Directions:
Drive east on 580, but stay in the right-hand lane so you can take the last exit onto Stenmark Drive instead of going over the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. The entry to the Beach Park is on Stenmark Drive about 1 mile north of the Toll Plaza. The turn into the parking lot is to the left and is well marked.
Note: If you are driving from Marin, it is not possible to exit directly onto Stenmark Drive when traveling east across the bridge. Use your navigation system to select another Richmond exit where you can get onto 580 going west, and then you can take the Stenmark Drive exit just before the Toll Plaza.
